Summary

TL1, National College B P Hasdeu, Romania

First of all, I want to thank you for all of your answers.

1. On this question, opinios are divided. On the one hand it is good to left your childish dreams and to grow up, but as someone answered: A dream, an ambition can make you carry mountains, walk through fire or slay our darkest demons from childhood.

2. After I read each answer, I come to the following conclusion: it is not easy to fulfill your dreams, for that you need ambition and supprt from your family and I will add a little rabbit's foot for good luck.

3. Everyone has their own dreams. We all want to get somewhere, or to be  someone, but with all these different dreams, we have something in common: we will fight for what we want.

4. When we were five years old some of us dreamed of speaking many languages in future, being great and amazing sports star, being doctors, others thought of becoming a director of the toy-shop. But today, our dreams and ambitions have greatly changed.

Summary

TL2, Dagda Secondary School, Latvia

1) It was interesting to know are there any differences how teenagers spend their free time. All teenagers spend their own free time in different ways. They usually find suitable activities and take part according to their interests. The most famous activities among teens  are:

  •  Doing sport (go skiing and skating, playing volleyball, football, handball, tennis and skateboarding).
  •   Participating in school and in after-school activities (choirs, music bands, clubs of interests: chess, dancing, singing, doing projects, exchanging experience).
  •  There are the most popular gadgets are used by teens:  Mobiles, iPod, iPhone, computers for games and chatting, MP3(4), Laptops, Cameras, Psp, PS3, X-Box.
  •    Using social nets on the Internet such as: Facebook and others.
  • Watching movies.
  • Chatting on the Internet.Summary1.docx
  • Sending emails, messages.
  • Going out with friends, walking and meeting friends.
  • Having parties: birthday parties, Christmas, New Year, Easter.

Unfortunately, we do not get the description of the most interesting event that we could organize and try it in our school. We all get new experience and learn practical skill like how to live in diversity. However, we also have to learn at schools and get knowledge for future life.

2) Acoording  to our second question about relationships with parents,  we have found that all arguements with parents are always solved. The most parents are tolerant and understand their children. A good way to find common language with parents  is simple to talk with them, do not try to hide something bad. We , teenagers are very emotional and sometimes angry, do not think about  the results and consequences, but there are some rules that we  must follow to. It does not depend on what you want or  you do not want to do.

If teens do not want to do what they have to, they can be punished. Punishment for teens could be the following: parents keep silence for 2-3 days, take away gadgets, do not allow to use cells, computers, going out. So, we have to understand that our parents have more experience of life, they are wise and we should listen to their advice and develop our own opinion on the issue or behaviour. In each country there  are special documents where is said what parents can do and what their behaviour is strictly prohibited.

Thank you all for your answers!

Answer from TL3

Adolescence can be seen like a wonderful period, in which we are looking for your own style, but is also the hardest. Every teenager is trying to grow up but it is too early. Their problems occur in the family but also among friends. The biggest problem of the teenagers around the world is disobeying parents. They think that if their  father  prohibits something then he is evil. It is NOT true. Many teens do not talk with parents. The second problem is that teens start  smoking  from an early age, such as 12 -13 years old. First, they are playing with their health but it is also bad for  those around them. Secondly,  one spends all the money they receive from parents. In my opinion, they smoke because they want to stand out in a crowd and attract attention of parents. A third fundamental problem is considered violence. Many teens are very aggressive.

Each teen takes care of his appearance. The more beautiful ones consider  themselves superior. But that should not matter. What really matters is what's in your soul. To remedy these problems parents have to try to make  more time to talk with them, to control them more and spend some time with them to explain what's good and what's bad. If the parent is missing from his life, this is visible through their behavior, actions and words.

Answer from TL5

What is the biggest issue that you face as a teenager in your country?

-Is this a problem for all teenagers across the world?

-What can you do as teenagers to help solve this issue?

I think the biggest issue that we face as teenagers is drugs, smoking, and bad drinking habit. Some student smokes and it cost big damage to your body. There are teenagers that has bad drinking habits and that  also costs damage to your body. There are also people that takes drugs when there still teens. There is also issues with teens during puberty, I sometimes argues with my mom, and other family members, well that's my issue, and I think everyone has this kind of problem when they are teens.

http://cnnstudentnews.blogs.cnn.com/2013/09/03/teenagers-biggest-challenges/

The data shows that their are23% of Ontario students report that they were offered, sold, or given a drug at school in the last year. That's about 219,000 students.

83% of Ontario students in grade 12 drink alcohol. 49% of gr. 12 students admit to binge drinking.

The top four substances used by Ontario students: 58% alcohol; Cannabis (marijuana) 25%; Non-prescribed use of prescription pain relievers such as codeine, Percocet, Percodan, Demerol, or Tylenol #3, 17%; Tobacco 11.7%.

The research also show as the time past, there are more teenagers that suicide, it means that the pressure for a teenagers are going up.

The most popular drugs for teenagers are cocaines and   ecstasy.

I think I’m don’t really have that much pressure on me, my friends sometimes argues with their parents, but I usually don’t. Some teenagers gets pressure because of too much homework, especially for grade 12 student I think, because they are graduating, and they have to study for big tests, I think I will get a lot of pressure too when I’m in grade 12. But now I don’t really have a lot of homework, so I don’t have pressure.

TL 5:

TL 5 said that the biggest issue facing teenagers in their country is drugs, smoking and alcohol. I agree that those are also issues facing teenagers in our country because with teenagers, it is easy for them to get pressured into doing stuff they don't want to do. Also, drugs and smoking are very addicting so once you do it, it is hard to quit. Another issue you had facing teenagers was puberty. Puberty changes your body and it is hard to get used to and fighting with your family members is also a problem with teenagers in Canada.

Summary for TL7

We live in a changeable world were we can face a lot of issues during our life especially for teenagers. In this period of time everything may seem more exaggerated than it already is. For example, we may think that teachers and parents are to strict and unfair to us. Also we may have problems with our friends and sometimes we think that our friends betray us so we feel lonely and upset. Another problem is laziness, when teens are lazy they don't wanna do a lot of things such as going to school, helping there parents and a lot of other things.

Summary for TL8

The biggest issue for teens is money. There usually to lazy or to busy with school to get a job. It is proven that when teens have too much work it creates laziness because of the lack of keeping up with work, chores or school. We want to be able to have freedom but that doesn't mean we have to depend on our parents for cash.

Summary of TL10 Answer

All students have uniforms that grant them access to school without it they are not permitted to enter. The students usually wear only a part of the uniform and think it’s uncomfortable

Summary of TL11 Answer

There are two kind of uniforms winter uniforms and summer uniforms. A boy’s hair isn’t allowed to be styled but girls are allowed to style theirs but they still have to tie it if it’s loose. There is a list of items people are not allowed to have, some are: high heels, short skirts, big earrings, and makeup or even dye in your hair. With all of these uniforms rules people sometimes try and change it up with a little makeup or different clothing but often get in trouble for it.

Summary

TL5, Pierre Elliott Trudeau Highs School, Canada

Education and educational rules around the world

There are different kinds of education and educational rules around the world. These regulations have changed through time, impacting how people think and feel. In many cases, education is a source of stress for students and even parents due to costs.

Firstly, there are some countries where education is paid for. It may not seem like much to the students, but it is very expensive for parents. After paying for education, there is almost nothing left. Families who live in the countryside have transportation as an added cost which only adds to financial pressure.

Secondly, literacy and math competency is different around the world. Some schools offer a better education than others, and this may be due to stricter rules and discipline. The better the school, the more difficult it is than ‘average’. Parents take this in consideration when they decide on a school for their child along with future commuting costs.

Thirdly, lots of students think school is too hard, even with many forms of technology to aid in their learning. There are lots of free-tuition schools with good literacy and math programs and fair ranks in comparison to others in the region and around the world.

To conclude, why do some countries have to pay for education while others do not? Why do lots of students struggle with school, even though learning technologies are developing fast? Issues involving education should be given more consideration as they are only getting bigger and bigger.

TL7, Lyceum 25, Ukraine

Summary.

Our questions were:

1. We are interested in the education of teenagers in your country.

a). Is school education important for teens? Is it compulsory?

b). Do you like studies?

c). Are there any out-of – school activities you participate?

2. How do you spend your spare time?

a). Do you like entertainments?

b). Have you got hobbies or you are keen on sports?

c). Do you like to celebrate any holidays? What are your favorite ones?

3. Can you say anything about youth subcultures in the country?

We are looking forward to your responses.

It was very interesting for us to read our partners’ responses. Now we are going to summarize them. It was pleasure for us to find out that teens of all countries respect studies, even if some of them don’t like to study much, they understand that education is very important for them, as the majority is going to enter universities and make a successful career. They are sure, that without school education they won’t be able to achieve their goals in life. It’ great, that school education is compulsory almost everywhere.

All schools in all countries have a lot of out-of–school activities, so teens have a lot of opportunities to develop themselves harmoniously. Teens can sing, dance, play musical instruments, participate in concerts, contests, competitions, school festivals.

We can’t deny the fact, that Sports is very popular among teens and is rather developed in the countries where our partners live. Especially popular are football, basketball, volleyball, cycling. In Canada hockey and skateboarding is widespread. As to South Africa, the sport they play is Bossia. It’s played in two teams, 3 people in a team. There are 6 red balls, 6 blue balls and a white jack ball. Every player has 2 balls. We think it’s very interesting as it’s unusual for us.

We know now all teens like different kind of entertainments: going to the cinema or watching videos, going to the theatre, concerts, discos, watching TV, listening to music, playing computer games. As to spare time, teens like to hang out with friends etc.

It’s obvious, all teens like holidays, especially they are fond of such holidays as Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving Day. Halloween is especially popular and loved much by teens in different countries, except Ukraine. Some people adore this holiday, but it’s not very popular. All countries honor the Day of their countries. They are widely celebrated with fireworks and parades.

We consider to be positive not having many representatives of subcultures, they are very few.

So, to make it short, we should say, that we are all alike. It’s wonderful.

Summary

TL8, Trochu Valley School, Canada

We thoroughly enjoyed this entire process. Our class learned a great deal about teen life from all of the participants. Our biggest take away is that life is similar for teens all over the world. We seem to have the same problems and the same interests no matter where we come from. It was interesting that we are so much the same. We really expected that other countries would be a lot different.

Please find our summaries attached in the document. Thank you for you answers and this process.

Summary

TL9, Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania, teacher Andrei Elena

Our questions: Teen life has changed a lot in many countries. 1) In our country you can get a driving license when you are 18. At what age can you get a driving license in your country? How do you think it feels to drive the car when you are 16? 2) In our country teenagers smoke a lot, both boys and girls. Is smoking common among teenagers in your country? 3) Which are the favourite free time activities for teenagers in your country? 4) Is it common in your country for teenagers to spend a lot of time in front of a PC or a game console? Which are their favourite computer games? 5) What types of music are liked by teenagers in your country?

TL2 tell that in Latvia they can get a driving license when they are 18. In their country teenagers smoke a lot, both boys and girls. In their small town mostly boys smoke. They start in classes 6-7. Only a few girls smoke in their town. However, in big towns there are a lot of teenagers who smoke, mostly secondary school students. The favourite free time activities for teenagers in Latvia are parties, doing different sport activities like handball, volleyball, floorball, football, chatting on the Internet and playing on the computer. They are interested in pop music and contemporary folk music and songs. They like hip-hop music too, and some boys are interested in hip-hop dancing.

TL3 say that in Romania they can get a driving license at 18. They can drive a scooter at 16, but not cars. It's amazing to drive at 16, but they think it's dangerous too, as many car accidents happen in their country. Unfortunately, in Romania teenagers start to smoke from early ages, like 12-13-14 and that's not good at all. It is the same with teenagers in their school. Some of them think it is “cool” to smoke, they start out of curiosity, but they don't realize how difficult it is to give up later. In Romania, in their free time teenagers go shopping with friends and young girls love this. Teenagers love to go out with friends and to spend their free nights in clubs. Some teenagers do sports in their free time. The most popular sport for boys is football. However, many teenagers spend their free time in front of the computer, playing a lot of games or accessing social networks. A lot of teenagers play online games like League of Legends, Counter Strike or Metin2, but they like single player games too, like Assassin's Creed, Grand theft auto or others famous games. In Romania teenagers listen to music a lot. Their favourite types of music are rap, commercial music, rock music and dubstep. Some of their favourite bands are: Taxi band, La-la Band, Vunk, Vama, B.U.G Mafia. Some of their favourite singers are: Connect-r, Smiley, What's up, DOC.

TL5 tell that in Canada teenagers smoke a lot, both boys and girls. Smoking teenagers is not really common in Canada, and the smoking rate is lower than in most countries. The statistics from the websites show that 14% of Canada teenagers in grades 7 through 12 still say they smoke every day. But the students in TL5 team don't smoke because they don't like the smell of cigarettes. In Canada they can get a driving license at the age of 16. In Alberta people can get it at 14. People from B.C., Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec, Saskatchewan and New Brunswick can get it at 16. People in Newfoundland and Labrador can get it at 17. About 45% of the people at the age of 16-19 have a driving license. Most Canadian teenagers like rap people, maybe they like rock too.

TL7 tell that people in Ukraine have the right to get a driving license at the age of 18. The team considers it's not right to give a driving license to those who are only 16! A teenager at 16 years is still a child, and they don't have much experience in life. They can not be responsible for they deeds. If there is an accident, the parents will be punished. Teenage smokers really are a problem at the present time! In Ukraine there a lot of teenage smokers. Most of them are girls! The team thinks it’s very dangerous for their health, for their children and the whole society. They are sure their Government and their Parliament must make strict laws and do everything to overcome this problem. In their free time, teens in Ukraine often like to go to cafes, clubs, in the center of the city, or just go to someone's home and listen to music, chat, laugh and simply have a lot of fun. Many children go to different clubs, a dance club, literature, journalist, art clubs, sport sections etc. Teenagers like to spend their free time outdoors too. They often have picnics, go for a walk to the forests, go hiking. They also adore travelling. Children spend a lot of free time with the computer too. Although one could walk in the street, see friends or visit relatives, most of all they prefer the PC. As for the mobile phone, it has a lot of advantages. When you go on a journey, it makes it easier as you can listen to music and search on the Internet and chart In the social nets. As to computer games, the most favourite are “Minecraft”, “Dota”, “Counter Strike”, “Star Wars” and others. A lot of children in their school have IPads, which are becoming very popular these days. Teens in Ukraine listen to different kinds of music, from rock to rap, both American and Russian. Everyone has different tastes, but it is difficult to say which style is the most popular. They listen to rap about fiction, because it is very mysterious for them. Some of them prefer pop, others techno and even folk music, some love jazz and others.

TL10 tell that they are Romanian too and in their country you are allowed to drive if you are 18 years old. They think it’s exciting, but dangerous, because at this age you are not able to control all your feelings and you can make more mistakes. Unfortunately, there are a lot of teenagers who smoke in their school. They refuse to understand the danger of such a bad habit and they shouldn’t spend their parents’money. As teenagers all over the world, the team spends a lot of time in front of the computer, talking to friends, listening to music, playing games. Their favourite games are FIFA AND G.T.A. In Romania teenagers listen to different types of music: rock, pop, disco, rap, classical, “manele’’. The type of music they listen to depends on their education.

TL11 tell that in their country they can get a driving license only when you are 18, but you can get a learners’licence (someone with a license must always be in the car) at the age of 16. Most of the boys love to be able to drive a car at an early age. The team thinks it is cool to drive a car at the age of 16.

TL12 say they can obtain a driving license after they turn 18 years old. Some teenagers start smoking because they think that is a good thing, but they're wrong. Generally there are many guys who start smoking and sometimes they influence the girls. Their favorite activities are: walks in the park, going out with friends, reading books, listening to music and playing computer games. Some of the teenagers are dependent of computer games or social sites. Their favorite games are IMVU, Sims, Fifa, Counter-Strike and others. Their favorite type of music is pop music.

Summary

TL10, Liceul Teoretic, Nicolae Iorga, Romania

From what we have seen, we have similar activities, even if we live in different countries. It seems like all teenagers like to hang out with friends, to read books, to practice different sports, to watch at tv and many others. In conclusion, it doesn't matter in what country we live, because we have almost the same age and we are a very beautiful group of friends!

Summary

TL11, Hope School, South Africa

Hey fellow students

We leant a lot and had fun at the same time in this project. The way you gave us examples of what you wanted to know before asking the question, helped us a lot to answer the questions.

We all learned something new. Some of us leant a lot of new stuff about the teen life in South Africa, by doing research to answer some of your questions and some of us learned by talking about the research the others did. We all learned something we didn’t know about your teen life in the answers we got to our question.

Some of the things that we learned about the teen life in South Africa are:

  • We learned how different the teen life was for our parents than it is to us. We did

not know that some of our parents did not get free textbooks from the  government. We didn’t know that they had different school uniforms and often didn’t have shoes and walked bare foot very far to school.

They didn’t have the same technology.

  • We also learned that some schools in South Africa don’t have to wear school uniforms.

  • We didn’t know that you had to pay to go to school but the government determine that parents only have to pay the amount they can afford.

  • We learned that it can be very competitive to get a place in some good schools in

    SOUTH AFRICA.

What we learnt from our question that we asked and you answered:

Our question to you was:

What do you find interesting and/or different about being in the teenlife?

We'd love to find out about a) your fashions/style both in and out of school

b)the activities you like to do in your free time including games, your sosial life and so on

c)the different gadgets, phones and social media you like and/or use

To the first part of our question we had a variety of answers.

  • it seems that all the schools in Romania wear school uniform, except we aren't sure about TL12, and although none of the schools in Canada, Latvia or the Ukraine has a school uniform, they have rules for what they are allowed to wear or not.. some have specific colours that they must wear or like a blazer that is the same for every one.
  • styles out of school also is different for a lot of people, but  most teenagers prefer to wear casual clothes, also to school for those that don't have a uniform.
  • We did not know that the clothes we wear, you can also in many other countries.
  • one school said that they don't wear uniform but they think it will be good to wear one if the colour and style can be fashionable, like purple.

The answers to the second part of the question was also interesting.

  • Some people said that boys and girls like to do different things. Boys like to do more rough things like sport and riding on bicycles and motorcycles, while girls like to talk, take walks, dance and sing
  • s few said they like to read while others said not enough kids read.
  • most teenagers seem to do some sport and others do a lot of different kinds.
  • dancing, singing and taking part in competitions is popular in one country and academic clubs in another.
  • most teenagers like disco, parties, clubs and concerts.
  • teenagers love to use their phones to talk on social media like facebook, whatsup
  • many play games on the computer or with their friends

the answer to the third part of our question:

  • teenagers love gadgets and use as many as they can; computers, smartphones, MP3 players, I pads, I pods, tablets. Every one cannot afford all the technologies.
  • there are many more social medias than we know like instagram,Tumblr PIP and so on.
  • many teens have game consoles.

Summary

TL12, Colegiul Economic Buzau, Romania

Life teenager in romania is just like anywhere in the world.

Adolescence is the age questions, doubts. We, teenagers, represent the future of this company. Some who are aware of this, they strive to learn as well in school, to attend a good school and enter college.Inherent in this age all sorts of questions like: "Who am I?""Why should you take into account to decide corcta?", "What is my purpose in life?" and many more that we will find the answer later or never.Nowadays it is becoming increasingly hard to be a teenager.

Appear temptations of all kinds such as drugs, cigarettes, alcohol.Who get to go on this way will be a lost man without adolescence, no other friends than those who walk the same path excruciating, full of precipices. It's hard to be yourself when you do differently entourage? In conversation with friends that thou must allegations, although you are of a different opinion. But you also to express your opinion, which is totally different from that of buddies, and if they are true friends they will appreciate your opinion or on the contrary, do not take it into account and will not bother you think they. This problem will make you more cautious in choosing friends who must be "on the same wavelength" with you, otherwise you will not understand and do not appreciate before.

Almost adults and children too, think how we could define the period we are experiencing. Some say it is the best time in one's life, on the contrary others say it is very hard to get along with a teenager.Whatever our view, adolescence is the stage that makes the transition from childhood to youth.Teenagers are different in character,  physical, thinking and the list could go on.Everyone is unique and lives in a world of sa.In this stage you grow, you start looking at things from a different perspective, you become another person, different from what you were before.Adolescence is a period Initiative, in which each begin to know better world to discover its secrets, to start the unexplored paths of life, to be initiated in all areas. Begin to know himself, discovers and realizes his personality sides she marks the existence of significant changes.

Adolescence means to me the most beautiful time of life, most full of anxieties stemming from questions that searches for the answer, the less emotionally balanced in ignorance site because you have teenagers in society and the universe, and still feverish to engage in a rational and harmonious life!

Man was created to live together in a community with other people and to this end it is absolutely connected and affected the relationships established between the both of them.Society in which it operates gives or rather should give him the proper expression of personality assessment as well as the work they do, of course, a beneficial purpose. Our world is not only important idea that is where we live, it must express our desire to progress and climb the ladder of humanity. Those who will ensure further continuity of human thought and effort are teenagers today, people of tomorrow.Between child and adult teenager is looking strong sensations and emotions. He is trying to overcome the limits imposed on adults, often just the desire to disobey them, because the point is to live as different and above others.

Personal experience is proof that stronger and more convincing that you place unanswered questions that adults generally do not bother to look for solutions.Young teen feels but desire to withdraw itself as an inner voice signal above will. These moments are often more intense than the daily escapades.
